First Round of Disaster Funds Distributed to North Carolina Growers

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has sent a first round of disaster relief funds to farmers in Western North Carolina who applied for assistance through the 2024 Ag Disaster Crop Loss program. The funds are designed to assist farmers negatively impacted by Hurricane Helene, drought, Tropical Storm Debby and Potential Cyclone 8.

Checks will be sent by category — such as specialty crop, nurseries and infrastructure — so growers may receive multiple checks. For additional information, contact NCDA&CS at 866.747.9823 or agdisaster@ncagr.gov. The Ag Disaster Crop Loss program also has a website with frequently asked questions.

REMINDER — RCTB Fall Webinar Series Begins in September

The Real Christmas Tree Board will host two free webinars this September. Registration is required to view the live webinars. Recordings of the events also will be emailed to registrants and posted to the RCTB Webinars webpage.

Larry Downey Earns Lifetime Achievement Award at Canadian Field Day Event

RCTB would like to congratulate former RCTB Board Member Larry Downey who was awarded a well-deserved lifetime achievement award at the Quebec Field Day.

Further, RCTB is encouraged by the attendance and enthusiasm at the recent Quebec and Ontario Field Day events. Current RCTB Board Member Ryan Tyce reported that both events were well attended. He noted that attendees had a lot of positive things to say about RCTB’s current research and promotion programs and was excited to see that more than half the Ontario participants were new growers. He also was inspired by the ideas generated by growers at the events as part of their one-on-one discussions and group sessions.
