RETAIN ACCESS TO CROP PRODUCTION AND CROP PROTECTION TOOLS

We are grateful to President Jackson for sponsoring this critical legislation. However, it is in danger of not passing, leaving farms without the necessary tools to produce food for our neighbors.

LD 1960 PROTECTS PRODUCTS THAT ARE ALREADY REGULATED BY THE US EPA FROM BEING BANNED IN MAINE

This includes products approved for use in certified organic production.

Please help inform our legislators that not all PFAS are “forever chemicals” and typically the fluorination used in crop protection products and their packaging (both of which will be prohibited from use in Maine by 2030) dissipates quickly.

PLEASE CALL OR EMAIL YOUR LEGISLATORS TODAY AND ASK THEM TO VOTE FOR THE MINORITY REPORT ON LD 1960

An Act to Support Farming in Maine by Excluding Certain Agricultural Products from the Law Governing the Presence of Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances in Products

Last year, legislation was passed that banned the use of all products and packaging that have one or more fluorinated carbons.

LD 1960 looks to fix this very broad legislation that prohibits nearly every product we use in our daily lives.

Agricultural products are strictly regulated by:

  • US Department of Environmental Protection
  • US Food and Drug Administration
  • US Department of Agriculture

We do not need to ban products that are available only to certified users and have gone through rigorous testing and met exhaustive standards.

We need to grow healthy food in Maine and we need proven and effective tools to help us!

We have already lost access to over 1,000 crop protection tools. We can’t afford to lose any more, especially when the alternatives are more toxic and less effective!
