KNOW STATE REGULATIONS WHEN SHIPPING WREATHS AND TREES Maine Department of Agriculture
Maine shippers should keep the following regulations in mind before sending Christmas wreaths and trees. Some prohibited plant material may be allowed under certain conditions. This list is a summary of the state plant health regulations found at www.nationalplantboard.org
Plant Material Shipping to Conditions All plant material All locations The contents of parcels (ex. 1 balsam wreath) must be clearly marked on the outside along with the statement Grown in Maine and the county of origin and name and address of the shipper. All wreaths and trees European and other countries Prohibited All rooted plant material All locations State certification is required. All trees with soil (such as with small potted or B&B trees) AK,AZ,AR,CA,CO,HI,IA,ID,KS,LA,MN,MO,MS,MT,NE,NV,NMND,OK,OR,SD,TN,TX,UT,WA Prohibited unless treated and certified free of Japanese beetle All trees (cut or rooted) grown in other than northern Aroostook Other than CT, DE, MD, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT Inspection and certification that the plants are free of gypsy moth. Chestnuts CA, OR, WA Prohibited Crabapple and hawthorn fruits AZ, CA, ID, OR, WA Prohibited Juniper CA Prohibited Pine (Pinus spp) Grown in all locations
Grown in other than Aroostook or Washington Counties CA, HI, MT, OR
Other than CT, IA, MA, MN, NH, PA, RI, VT, WV, WI Trees are prohibited. Wreaths containing pine are allowed October 31-December 31 Trees must be inspected and found free of pine shoot beetle.
